The Autism Controversy – Is a rose a rose by any other name?

It appears that the American Psychiatric Association in the DSM V (Diagnostic and Statistical Mental of Mental Disorders) fifth addition, is proposing to narrow the spectrum of autism. This will essentially cause a hardship to numerous individuals currently considered under the autism or pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) spectrum. The narrowing of the definition may make it harder for individuals with diagnoses such as Asperger's Syndrome to receive health, educational and social services. According to the January 19, 2012 New York Times Article, professionals and advocates are concerned that this change will have a negative impact on thousands of individuals who will lose much needed educational, monetary and social services. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/20/health/research/new-autism-definition-would-exclude-many-study-suggests.html?pagewanted=all.
