Social Security subcontracts with the each state to perform the medical review portion of your case. Do you ever wonder what kind of doctor is reviewing your case? According to a November 21, 2011 article from the Wall Street Journal states that the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, in an effort to expedite a growing backlog of disability applications, is using any type of doctor available to review any type of case. Therefore, an internist may evaluate a neurological or cardiac case or a cardiologist an orthopedic case. The article does not specify where the psychiatrist fit in.
