It appears that winter is over and spring is finally here. The weather is warmer, there are robins out and about and trees and plants are starting to bloom throughout the north New Jersey area, including the parks in and around Newark. As the weather continues to warm up, people will start to be outdoors more, often enjoying various recreational activities such as jogging, biking or participating in sports.
Unfortunately, no matter what you do, and no matter how much you try to protect yourself, accidents can happen to anyone at any time, often leading to serious or catastrophic injuries such as spinal cord or brain injuries. Such injuries could lead to long term or even life-long consequences. Thankfully, the Social Security Administration has a program designed to help Americans who are unable to work due to a severe injury.
As we have stressed before, SSDI benefits for accident injuries are not designed to pay for a victim’s rehabilitation or medical costs, but are available to provide some financial relief for those suffering from injuries who are unable to work and earn an income.
The process of applying for SSDI benefits for accident injuries is not always easy, especially for someone already facing physical hurdles while trying to cope and heal from a serious injury. You must be able to prove that your injury prevents you from maintaining gainful employment and that the condition is expected to last at least a year or end in death. It is also important to make certain that the forms are filled out completely and correctly. Failing to do so may lead to a rejected application, which means you would need to appeal and go through various other time-consuming steps to try to get your application approved.
