Restless leg syndrome (RLS), or Nocturnal myoclonus or Akathisia, is a disorder which curses unpleasant sensation in the legs and causes the legs to have a need to move. It occurs most often in middle-aged or older adults with chronic kidney disease, diabetes, iron deficiency, Parkinson’s disease, and peripheral neuropathy. It may be hereditary. When the leg movements happen at night during sleep hours, they are called periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD). There is no known test or treatment for RLS or PLMD. Some medications may be helpful including Mirapex, Requip, Sinemet, gabapentin, pregabalin or tranquilizers such as Clonazepam.

This condition may interfere with sleep or make concentrating or focusing on work difficult. It may be uncomfortable to stay in any position for any length of time. Therefore, this condition individually may interfere with work. For more information about how RLS/PLMD may limit your ability to work, contact The Law Offices of Sheryl Gandel Mazur.
