Seeking SSD benefits for rheumatoid arthritis

On behalf of The Law Offices of Sheryl Gandel Mazur | Sep 8, 2017 | Social Security Disability

We all suffer aches and pains at some point in our lives. Whether they are simply the result of over exertion, injury or a larger medical issue, it is important to take proper steps to medically address these pains. In some unfortunate cases, individuals in New Jersey and elsewhere suffer pain because of a worsening medical condition. These conditions could develop into a debilitating condition, causing some individuals to be unable to work.

When a disability causes the inability to work, individuals often seek out resources available to them. Social Security disability benefits are available to those suffering from a qualifying disability. Thus, in order to enjoy these benefits, an applicant must prove that he or she is suffering from such a disabling condition.

Rheumatoid arthritis may not exhibit a label of disability to the general public. However, it is an autoimmune disorder that can cause sufferers much pain. Because many view this medical issue as the result of normal wear and tear, even those living with the disorder do not view it as a qualifying medical condition.

Nonetheless, it should be noted that rheumatoid arthritis is one of the leading causes of disability in the U.S. Even more so, it is a disability that makes it impossible to work, thus qualifying them for SSD benefits. So long as the disorder impedes physical and sedentary work, an applicant could qualify for disability benefits.

If you are unsure if you are currently suffering from rheumatoid arthritis or any other disabling disorder, it is important to understand what options are available to you. Applying for SSD benefits is not always easy, as many initial applicants are denied. Therefore, it is essential to understand both the application and appeals process.
